The Poor Clare Community of Baddesley Clinton, Warwickshire is a contemplative enclosed monastic community. In 1978, after extended discussions, I received permission to take photographs of the order.  At the time there were over 30 nuns living in the convent. On a recent visit the number has declined to four!  I visited the community about five times, taking numerous black and white exposures.  As a complete outsider I was treated with respect and good humour. In their simple daily life the Sisters have time for private prayer and spiritual reading; each Sister has her own ‘cell’, where she can be solitary. At the same time the Sisters eat, work and pray together and live in community. In the tradition of St Clare they also undertake church sewing and offer hospitality to those who wish to spend some time in quiet contemplation.
